Day 05: A Picture of Somewhere I’ve Been To

Nova Scotia, Canada
Went when I was 12 and it was my first time traveling out the country. I took a cruise ship and Nova Scotia was one of the places we visited. It really is a beautiful place, however when I went up there it didn't look as sunny as it did in this picture. It was so foggy and cold!!

Day 04: A habit that I Wish I Didn’t Have...

I have so many!!!!! Number one would definitely be me always waiting until the last minute to do things. I don't know why I do it. I've done it so many times that it became an ingrained response, and it almost never turns out well for me. I took a speech class over the summer and we were required to do four speeches to pass the class. My professor told us the first day of class what we had to cover in our speeches, so I had ample time to work on them. I BS'ed around on the first speech, and waited until the day of to work on it. I ended up doing the speech impromptu and my professor was able to tell I wasn't prepared, so she gave me a big fat D!!! That speech really brought my grade down. There was no reason for me to have came out that class with less than a B. It wasn't like the topics were hard.  But I def learned my lesson that day, and I am currently still working on my time management skills. What are some of you guys habits???

Day 02: The Meaning Behind My Blog Name

Hmmm, I had no idea what to name my blog. I originally named it Sincerely, Anastasia Monet but deemed that too cliche and decided to use that as my url instead. I was listening to Common's In My Own World (Check the Method) while I was working on the layout, and figured I'll use the title of his song as my blog name for the time being. I thought about changing it later, but I just might stick with it.

What Kind of Person Am I?: For Colored Girls Review

Last night my professor invited my classmates and I to see For Colored Girls movie screening. I also had the opportunity to see my professor Dr. Ammons, Phylicia Rashad, and another young lady (i forgot her name but she was a DC news reporter) discuss the movie in a panel immediately after the movie ended. All I can say is WOW!!! lol I don't want to spoil and give away too much, because it doesn't come out until friday and a lot of people havn't seen it yet, but I think Tyler Perry done an amazing job.
For those who aren't familiar with the movie, For Colored Girls is a movie based on Ntozake Shange's play "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf." The play featured 7 women known by colors who performed a collection of 20 poems. In the movie, the women had names but wore their colors. Each of the poems dealt with major issues that impacted women on what it meant to be a women of color in the world. The themes of the movie included infidelity, pregnancy, homosexuality, molestation, sexual morality, domestic abuse, alcoholism, and death. You will take a journey with each character as they change their lives through negative and positive choices. Nothing is sugar-coated in this movie. As a young woman watching this, it is difficult not to be disgusted, sympathetic and familiar with their drama. Bring lots and LOTS of tissues because you will be on an emotional rollercoaster because you will feel the pain and tragedy each character feels. If one story doesn't touch you, believe me another's will. This is not a date night type of movie lol. The panel was great as well. I was so excited to see Phylicia Rashad, she is so beautiful in person and funny!!!! I encourage all women, young or old to go out and watch this movie as it celebrates sisterhood.

XOXO,
